1. Recommended vacation reading 7 items
We expect all our students to have had some academic training in both theology and at least one of the arts (visual, literary, and/or musical). But we also recognize that you won't all have an equally strong background in each. If your main study so far has been in the arts, I would recommend reading through at least some of items 1 to 3 below. If your main study so far has been in theology, I would recommend one or two of items 4 to 6. I would also recommend to everyone to read item 7 (Sailing to Sarantium), a historical fantasy surrounding the building of Hagia Sophia. It's a wonderful novel, and will become relevant in week 2, when we will be looking at some early Christian mosaics.
